ARTIST STATEMENT

"Art is a universal language that has enabled me to communicate with the entire world without saying a word. A large part of the motivation behind my art has to do with my passion for knowledge, psychology, societal and individual views/perspectives, and our never-ending search for answers. Focusing on portraits and figurative, I am inspired and challenged by one of nature's most complex and beautiful creations — the human being.

By using a familiar notional subject, I'm able to connect with the viewer while inspiring endless questions and analyzation. In portraiture even with an undecipherable facial expression and no speech, true emotion is always discernable in the eyes indicating more than just the visible aesthetics. The figurative work I do represents strength and courage among other honorable attributes. They are metaphorically self-representational in the sense that by making my art public, I am baring myself to the world. I often create a body image society has propagandized as normal. Projecting oneself as flawless has become the aspiration of many. It's truly impossible to be perfect which propels questions about such things as image, perception, and reality for example.

The reoccurring theme of a black or non existent background is created to let the viewer place the subject anywhere they can imagine. By doing so it creates a very unique and personalized experience with the art. My passion for knowledge has helped drive and further my creative process, and my passion for psychology can be seen in underlying characteristics in my portraiture and figurative art. Each piece is created to engage the viewer, conjure instinctual & aesthetic emotion, encourage questions & analyzation, and stir imagination."
